Important Notice to all TVic Members May 2014:
We will soon be shutting down this Transition Victoria Ning social media website. If you have uploaded or seen anything on our Ning website which you would like to retain copies of, please make copies for yourself by May 18th, because much of it will not be transferred to the new site.
It was not without some discussion and debate that we came to this decision over the course of the past year or two. After all, over the years since our first Training for Transition weekend in the fall of 1999, the Ning has helped us spread the word about the hundreds of events participated in by many of you all. We've had author talks, film screenings, gift circles, community building gatherings, and discussion cafés on food, strategy sessions for reshaping the local economy, re-skilling learning events, and a solar energy contest. We've had work parties planting nut trees, processing flax into linen, and improving a neighbourhood food forest in Fernwood. And so much more!
But with the plethora of social media opportunities on the web today, it seems that animating and managing our own social media platform is outside the skills, interests or energies of either core or casual Transition Victoria members. Even though some groups and activities have been continuing under the Transition Victoria umbrella, the Ning itself gets very little traffic or use. So the Transition Victoria Coordinating Team has decided to move the TVic online presence to a simpler, lower-cost website which will be online by the end of May.
As always, if you’re interested in trying to take leadership and engage others in some sort of Transition initiative, and the Coordinating Team can help your efforts somehow, let us know! And you can always connect with many fellow TVic members directly through our Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/114086707914/
The Transition Victoria Coordinating Team
Transition Victoria (located in British Columbia, Canada) is part of a global grassroots movement supporting citizen action toward reducing oil dependence and building local community resilience and ecological sustainability.
We are entirely volunteer-run and building as we go, so this is a do-it-yourself portal into the universe of Transition. If, after joining and looking around, you're still unsure how things work on this site or whom to contact about your interests or ideas, please email email@example.com.
