This course will examine wild edible foods that are available in both urban and rural areas around Victoria. Emphasis will be placed on foods that are in season. Students will learn through field trips by participating in the harvest and preparation of select foods. Slide show presentations and lectures will supplement hands on experiences.

Learning Outcomes:
• Learn how to safely identify, sustainably harvest, and successfully prepare locally available delicious wild edible foods.
Facilitator: Abe Lloyd’s academic interest is in ethnoecology. He is studying estuarine root gardens of the NW Coastal First Nations with an emphasis on learning how traditional management affects the root productivity and palatability of silverweed (Potentilla Pacifica). Abe's passion is for wild edible foods, which he tries to regularly incorporate into his diet.
