CONVENING & ORGANIZING A MAJOR TRANSITION VICTORIA PUBLIC EVENT
The Initiating Committee (IC) suggests the following principles for the organizers of all events:
1) We acknowledge that every event is designed for specific purposes, objectives and audiences. If an event is not meeting the needs of some members, they are encouraged to create an event that will speak to those needs. The more, the better and the more focused each activity is on who we want to engage and for what outcomes - the better.
2) Every event has an organizing group of 3 or more who step up to give vision and leadership to the event as they see fit in keeping with discussed objectives and transition principles.
3) There is an open call on the ning for participants who want to be in the organizing group. This group then meets or plans the event. This group can choose to allow new members after a certain time - or not.
4) The organizing group has both rights and responsibilities. They have a right to make and implement decisions about the event. They have a responsibility to welcome suggestions from other members, within a specified timeframe, who may want to have input into the event. The organizing group needs to be clear about what kind of input is desired. The organizers can choose to reply to all feedback - or simply to gather it prior to their planning or at a mid point - or both - as they see fit.
The intent of these principles is to support leadership around events while also being clear about how to invite member participation and input.
