Linen Project - volunteers needed
The Linen Project is all about growing flax to make into local, sustainable clothing. The project has received an infusion of money to expand the program. A proposal to the Saanich Historical Artifact Society (SHAS) is underway to grow flax on the peninsula, to harvest it and put it through all its stages until it’s ready for spinning. What is needed now is storage space (SHAS can store some but not all the harvest) and people power. If you are passionate about growing our own fabric and would enjoy joining a work party in the fields from time to time, please email barbrimmer40@gmail.com.
There’s 2010 flax ready for spinning, stored at Barb Rimmer’s.
Interest in fibre arts is on the rise! Did you know that Vancouver Island still has a working wool mill in Qualicum? People on Salt Spring Island are also processing flax.
Table Hosts
Seeking friendly and welcoming people who love to socialize! T Vic wants to spread the word about our groups and projects but there are too many events for the hosts we currently have. It’s also way more fun to go to the events in pairs, so we really need lots of positive people for this job! Join the tabling group and get oriented to Transition around the world, to Transition Victoria and then get free admission and share a shift at one of Victoria’s events this year.

Meet and Mend Host
This is a monthly group that meets to socialize, learn and share their skills. It is a popular way to pick up valuable re-skilling knowledge and meet others who share your interest. We need a new host who is willing to share their home with others for this activity – maybe someone who has attended in the past?

The Energy Interest Group has lost their facilitator to a Masters program at the University of Northern BC. If you are interested in renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions, can convene others (this group has a substantial following on the ning), facilitate meetings, and help members focus their interest and knowledge on a project, this is the job for you. Sounds daunting? Maybe – but there is lots of orientation and ongoing support from other Transition Victoria members and group facilitators – you won’t be alone!
